"I have practiced yoga on and off for the last 40+ years: from
Ashtanga and Iyengar and traditional Hatha yoga to incredibly competitive yoga
classes given at various yoga "centers' and gyms. Finally, I found Sivananda
yoga, and most particularly my yoga teacher Narayana.
In finding this yoga style (strongly based on breathing, meditation, and an inner awareness within the yoga pose) I have found peace. I don't mean to imply this is "easy" yoga. For this
student it's a challenge to perfect the pose, but way more of a challenge to
live within the pose, within the class, and within my life - without regard for
perfection. Really hard. There are plenty of yoga classes nearby, but I
travel miles to practice Sivananda yoga with Narayana. What can I
say? Great class, great teacher." -Neil
"Sivananda yoga is very different from the other forms of yoga
taught in the Bay Area; it is much more traditional, meditative and spiritual.
While the poses can be challenging, the aim is not to do the poses better
or be able to do harder ones, but to use the poses as a springboard for
meditation and transformation, healing and transforming mind and body alike.
Narayana is a very skilled, knowledgable and talented teacher, who gives
enough explanation but doesn't dominate the class with lots of instructions of
long-winded lectures." -Terry
"Narayana's style is relaxed , and students progress at their own rate. The
approach to yoga that Narayana teaches is a complete body-mind integrated
method, in which equal attention is paid to the breath, inner focus and the
asanas. This integrated approach is what distinguishes his class from many
others: it is so much more than simply an exercise class. I highly recomnmend
the class." -Jeannie
